I vividly remember this trend . Those letters adorned everything from bracelets to Bible covers, backpacks and more. Put into today’s language it became the virtue signaling of its time. At least the virtue that it signaled pointed to our Savior, the Son of God who walked the earth then sacrificed his life to pay the price for the sins of mankind.
I also remember some people ask, “But how do you know what Jesus would do? He was never __________ insert specific modern situation. So I began to wonder, is this even a question I should ask? Should I presume to speak for Jesus? Then, just as it always happens, a thought floats through my mind. If I am paying attention and notice, my question is answered. God never fails me.
Today amidst the social and political strife in our country we are more divided than ever in my lifetime. The division is deep and emotionally charged. It becomes so hard to see through the rhetoric to find truth. There is a truth; the truth that supersedes all else.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16
Jesus brought life to all who would believe and accept Him. The problem in the United States right now cannot be fixed by people. We are all broken. Only God can save us. So I turn off the news and do things that promote peace in my heart. I listen to beautiful music. I read my Bible and anything that lifts me up. I create beauty with wool and yarn. I love my family and I pray.
The feeling of helplessness can be overwhelming. Once overwhelmed, fear and dread set in. This is not how God wants us to live. Do as I do…draw near to him and he will draw near to you. You are loved.
